The Christian Journey

The Bible is a Comedy

Yes, the Bible is a comedy.

Ancient Greek culture has had a “dramatic” impact on Western civilization and Christianity, and therefore the world.  For the ancient Greeks writing and putting on plays and dramas was an important part of their cultural life.

For these people there were only two types of plays, two types of stories, Tragedies and Comedies.

Tragedies as the name implies always end in tragedy, disaster, heartache, ruin, and regret.

Comedies on the other hand were often humorous, but the main thing that distinguished them from tragedies is that they have a happy ending.

The Bible and the Christian story is a comedy.  It has a happy ending.

Things are assured to be messy in the middle but things will end with gladness, beauty, healing, life, and goodness.

This happy ending won’t come through our striving or human progress.  No, the ending is based on something much more sure than that – the providence and nature of God.

Live like you know that the Bible and the Christian story is a comedy.  Live today, live your life, like you know how the story ends.
