Reading the Bible for Growth & Change
As discussed HERE there are a lot of different ways to read the Bible. Christians primarily read the Bible to learn about God, gain insight into life, and gain guidance for living.
The wonderful thing about having these types of goals in your approach to the Bible is that you can start reading pretty much any part of the Bible and get the job done.
It helps immensely though to have the right questions as you read.
At the church where I pastor, we have a very simple approach to both individual and group Bible readings – and it’s the same format either way and it works well either way. No matter what we’re reading or who we’re reading with, we always walk away with some good things to take with us into the rest of our day and week.
Here is how it works:
- Pick a chapter or two in the Bible to read.
- Read it
- Think about it by asking these questions:
- What does this say about God?
- What does this say about me?
- What does this say about how I/we should live?
- Pray about what you read and learned and anything else you want to talk to God about.
- Go live it.
We also made these into pretty handy little cards that can be used as Bible book marks.
Give it a try on your own or in a group and see what treasures this simple format helps you find as you read the Bible.
Maybe even make a daily practice of it!
