The Impossible Place

We’ve all been there.

Life will bring you there again.  Somehow.

It’s that place where life itself feels like claustrophobia.

It’s that place where there is no way to get THERE from HERE.

It is the place where hurdles loom up like mountains.

You are stuck.

There is no way out.

You are alone in this place.  Maybe not in life, but in THIS place.  No one really knows.

It is the place where bright dreams seem to fade into distant memories.

In this place, sun-filled hopes for the future dim and narrow to the next breath or the end of the day.

It is the place where all life seems like a cage – or a foregone conclusion.

It is the place where we KNOW the story is a tragedy, waiting only for the end.

It is the impossible place.

We’ve all been there.

Life will bring you there again.  Somehow.

A man named Job was there, and then he experienced the grandeur that “God is,” and that was enough.

A woman named Hagar was there and she encountered “the God who sees me,” and that was enough.

A man named Gehazi woke up to find himself in the impossible place, but a friend prayed that he would be able to see what God sees, and that was enough.

A man named Elijah was hiding in the impossible place, but he heard a still small voice, and that was enough.

The Psalmist walked through the impossible place and found that God was with him there, and that was enough.

A woman named Perpetua was forced into the impossible place. She remembered WHOSE she was, and that was enough.

The Son of God moved into the impossible place and said to everyone there, “I am with you always,” and that was enough.

The impossible place.

We’ve all been there.

Life will bring you there again.  Somehow.

It is the place where faith grows and roots deepen – if you let them.
